Red Letter (yarn) Day!

I am very excited.

Yesterday I received both my last shipment of the Sumptuous Sock Club yarn, and my First shipment of Blue Moon's Rockin' Sock Club yarn!!!! WHEE!

The SSC yarn is 100% Mongolian cashmere, 400 yd, 2 oz, fingering weight, 2-ply. It is dyed in yummy raspberry sherbet tones, almost a solid dye, but not quite - the colorway is called "First Kiss" (aww). SO SOFT!! And, as a surprise, the organizer put together a pattern for the yarn. It's super cute and girly - it has little knit roses you can make and attach to the top of the sock's leg. My only criticism of this sock club is that there were no patterns sent with the yarn. I understand that if you are a smaller business, you might not have time to fish out designers, but maybe you could contract with one, say, Cookie A, and tell her, "Hey - I want to buy 500 of your "Red Thread Sock" pattern and distribute it with my sock club yarn. Is that ok?" Although I do understand the desire to have an "exclusive" pattern come to you with your yarn. And it's not like there aren't plenty of free patterns online - I have a bookshelf stuffed with them! Speaking of Cookie A, I've been lusting after that Red Thread pattern for a while. That one and the ShiBui Knits "Transitions" glove pattern.

The RSC yarn is Blue Moon's signature Socks That Rock Lightweight yarn, 360 yd, 4.5 oz, fingering weight yarn. It is space dyed (? I think that's the right term) in tones that range from brick red to cherry red to pale pink. The colorway is called "Dragon Dance", and they created it in honor of Chinese New Year. The pattern is pretty interesting, too - I don't have it in front of me, but the designer worked with the striping of the colorway to come up with something interesting. I think I might challenge myself to knit the pattern with the yarn that comes with it, if only to learn new skills and have different socks than I would have picked - isn't that the point? :)

Anyway.. I am VERY excited to receive these yarns! Once my camera's batteries are recharged, I'm posting spoilers (with a Very Visible "Spoiler Alert" heading to warn anyone who might read this and not want to see their yarn before it arrives...)

Hi Mel! You're gonna have to put up a picture of that Dragon Dance yarn up, it sounds dragonlicious.

So you're making Viking hats? Got a picture of a finished product? I've been looking for kitty ear hats myself.. you know.. for my ears during our harsh winters
